Neighborhood Bar Helps With Garden Grove Cold Case

Behind the Scenes

OC Crime Catchers shooting at Club 22

We want to give a special “shout out” to the owners of Club 22 in Garden Grove who allowed our production team to use their sports bar for a reenactment of a Garden Grove cold case featured in the premiere episode of OC Crime Catchers.

Gaby and Jonnie graciously opened early so we could complete a four-hour shoot before the bar’s official opening time of 11AM.  They loaned us bartender Bobby Vetere, who not only made us feel welcome but taught our lead actress how to mix a drink so she could be convincing in her role as a cocktail waitress.

Bobby played himself, taking on the role of the bartender for the reenactment, keeping the extras entertained with funny stories between scenes.  –It’s easy to see why this guy is so popular with Club 22 patrons.

Jonnie describes the atmosphere at Club 22 as something you expect to find at a neighborhood bar.  “If you’ve never been here before, you come in a couple of time, everyone knows you, Jonnie says.  “Kind of a Cheers kind of place,”  she adds.

Following the video shoot, we hung out and ate breakfast (offered on Saturdays and Sundays) which was really tasty and surprisingly inexpensive.  Other food bargains include a huge plate of  spaghetti and meatballs on Wednesday night for five dollars.  Friday night is steak night, with a 10-ounce rib eye, baked potato and corn on the cob for only ten bucks.

Gaby and Jonnie bought Club 22 in 2008 when it was a defunct nightclub that had been shuttered for two years.  They teamed up to re-open the site as a fully remodeled sports bar, complete with granite counter tops, comfy bar chairs, and sparkling new kitchen.

A selection of what Club 22 offers

The bar includes six televisions, two pool tables and an Internet juke box with thousands of song titles.  Club 22 draws local football fans who enjoy watching NFL Sunday Ticket in high definition, with a choice of a dozen tap beers and a variety of bottled brews.

Karaoke fans pack the place on Tuesday nights with patrons raving about the fun they have singing with Club 22’s host, “Crazy Shed,” aka “The Chocolate Bunny.”  Shed’s dynamic personality has helped the club get a four to five-star rating on Yelp.

One thing that really makes Club 22 stand out among neighborhood bars is how clean the place is.  Everything sparkles:  –Even the restrooms!  Jonnie smiles with pride as she tells me about the framed certificate hanging on the wall behind the bar, granting Club 22 an “Award of Excellence” from the Orange County Health Department.

“This place is owned by two women, so we treat it like our house and it’s got to be clean,” she insists.

Friendly atmosphere, good food, bargain prices, and “clean” fun.  –What more could you want from a neighborhood bar?

Add a couple of compassionate women who want to help two families to get the justice they deserve, and Club 22 is a winner in our book!
